f*** off demarco
That is unfortunate, but I'll say that Lazarus still does have that "whimsical" element of Space Dandy, just obviously not to its level. Stylized action of Cowboy Bebop and fluidity of Samurai Champloo, mixed with the aesthetics and somewhat lightheartedness (in regards to the world and character design) of Carole & Tuesday.
@proper the only big thing so far after delving deep into anime is
I cannot stand the japanese audio, its hard to focus, gets me distracted idk why
Then I found out that dub v sub is a huge debate & hella disagreements on that topic
When I watch with English dub, it kinda has a certain campiness of the Metal Gear Solid type that I have come to enjoy
f*** off demarco
Americans hate fun man

Which anime have you watched dubbed vs sub? Cause there is def a lot of dub that is lazy and not good
first ep impressions for this week i guess. anime is saved
Once Upon a Witch's Dream (5/10) - another entry into the "meeting people on your journeys and seeing the beauty of humanity" subgenre of anime. this one doesn't seem to have much to offer compared to its predecessors in the medium
Rock Is a Lady's Modesty (7/10) - good visual language. stuff like Suzunomiya calling the academy an oppressive cage while the scene uses a high-angle shot of her standing behind a window, the window’s framing subtly resembling a birdcage, that kind of visual storytelling is great. its incredibly basic, but it at least shows that some sort of artistic intent and effort was put into the scene which puts it into the top 10% of seasonals already. the visual direction in general is just very good and if you've watched shows like MariMite you can definitely see the similarities
Dinner Table Detective (5/10) - doesnt actually seem that bad if you want a comedy-mystery anime but im not a uni student anymore so i aint really got time to waste on this
Yaiba (7/10) - it saved shounen. best animated premiere this season and so far it doesnt seem like its going to do something stupid like try to be serious or deep.
Slime 300 S2 (6/10) - tired salaryman-core
Kowloon Generic Romance (7/10) - great atmosphere and setting, which makes the underwhelming boarding pretty disappointing.
Witch Watch (5/10) - im not even going to talk about the actual show here. Amazing OP, if Ishitani decided to go solo and leave One Piece to direct her own shows i think she would define the next 5-10 years of anime
Cinderella Gray (6/10) - definitely the best looking full-length TV uma entry so far. this season is gonna be more of a shounen-style season as opposed to S2 and S3 which were more writing-focused, but isn't necessarily a bad thing. S3's writing was noticeably worse than S2 so having a season that focuses on nothing more than aura and hype moments is a nice change of pace and ensures the franchise wont run out of interesting narrative threads too quickly for later seasons
Shoushimin Series S2 (6/10) - insane OP. there will probably be a 50/50 split between people who think the Ishitani Witch Watch OP is better or the Ishiguro Shoushimin Series OP is better at the end of the year and frankly i dont think either group would be wrong

Off the top of my head
One punch man, monster, evangelion, attack on titan (still watching), angel cop, midnight eye goku, castlevania, vinland saga, solo leveling, parasyte, berserk, paranoia agent, deadman wonderland
Couple more I suppose
As someone that grew up on Conan, its really nostalgic how Yaiba captures Aoyamas old artstyle. Like a lot of Shonen from the 80s thar were written just from week to week, the series falls off in the second half but i am gonna stay watching just for nostalgia purposes
What's the talk about dmc being a flop? I've never played the games and wanted to check the anime out
From what I've seen is that the story strays towards "demons are misunderstood with a lil politics involved" which the games aren't about at all
But I suppose if uve never played em u might be able to enjoy the show
It's giving Yakuza show flop vibes
1st episode had dope music.
Great soundtrack forreal. Voice acting was extremely dull and emotionless for the most part though. Felt like that early 2000s era of video game voice acting when VAs were getting less goofy, but weren't given that great of direction. Kinda bizarre too since most Watanabe shows have terrific English dubs.
Also the action sequences felt so...quiet? Like there are moments when certain objects should make noise, but there's nothing lol
Everything else about the first episode was solid though. S*** looks gorgeous and there's so much style amongst character designs from major to supporting even to background.
witch watch is hilarious
felt a lot of gintama influence in some of the jokes. was super glad to see it's getting 26 episodes, should be fun
Thought this was an interesting thread. Don’t necessarily share the same sentiment for this particular clip but I feel like this for some particularly flashy sequences that have come out the last couple years. There are some OPM and One Piece scenes that come to mind, that imo don’t really have good coordination, and it’s just flashy lights colliding, and people will be hyped out the ass for them.
Someone mention Lazarus earlier, and while it doesn’t do the flashy lights so far, some of the animation in the first episode didn’t really have weight to it. The MC felt a lil too floaty, but otherwise very nice animation quality.
damn just found out my monoke ticket is for a regular screen and not imax. was wondering why it was almost 10$ cheaper smh.
it was advertised as imax in the atom app when i purchased it tho..
Yall watching Lazarus dub or sub?
spanish dub w japanese subs
Lazarus carried hard by score, lacks any style, color script is pretty bad (if you're going to do a realistic color script/photography get a Kentaro Waki) + all those amazing key animators to be limited to very dull expressions, fight choreography etc.
The only thing that could possibly redeem this is if Watanabe comes up with the most batshit insane ending ever. Or if he leans heavy into satire and is less on the nose, but I doubt that will ever happen.
you know sometimes you get random ppl who know nothing about anime talk about how cowboy bebop is influential or some s*** like that and after having to sit through that first ep of lazarus i will thank god every day that those people are wrong
