otorimonogatari was such a fire arc

nokotan ended up being pretty boring. it's a brainrot show so it's not like i expected anything spectacular but the gimmick just got ran into the ground and there wasn't much else going on. the first few episodes were funny but it was more or less the same exact thing from there on out. probably would've dropped it in a stronger season but i didn't watch that much this season so i kept with it. 5.5/10

it's the classic romance manga trend of having a strong start and then immediately taking a nosedive after the main couple finally get together

that manga has separate issues tho like how 99% of interactions boil down to misunderstandings and then it just becomes a giant apology fest

at least with the anime coming we'll get all the good bits

Agreed and it feels like every chapter is forced to have like an emotional moment where some pages are just zoomed in on the faces lol

Gimai - 8/10 - Ueno is an arthouse film director who somehow found himself stuck in the anime industry. It really drives home how mediocre the average director is when Ueno can pull off something like this with basically no resources on his debut.

Nige Jouzu - 8/10 - Every Umehara show is must-see TV. I hope this man never retires and just continues to amass his personal army of creators who are willing to push what anime can be.

Makeine - 8/10 - Actually a masterclass in mixing comedic and serious moments. A lot of media undermines its serious moments by jumping too abruptly into something comedic, but Makeine is not afraid to let its serious moments breathe. It's easy for a show to deflect criticism by claiming it isn't trying to be more than what it is, but few shows have the confidence to embrace sincerity and allow themselves to be judged by those moments.

Monogatari - 8/10 - Best written anime cast of all time.

Isekai Shikkaku - 5/10 - Palette cleanser anime.

Oshi no Ko S2 - 5/10 - Manga readers told me that the 2.5D Stage Play arc was the best part of the series and I can't say I disagree. If the entire show was about the 2-3 episodes of this arc exploring how the characters lives and relationships fuel their performances on stage, it could be a discount Revue Starlight, but the show insists too much on the dumb murder mystery and surface-level commentary on the entertainment industry.

Shoushimin Series - 5/10 - Very nice to look at, but a discount Hyouka in every aspect imaginable, including the visuals. I think in the last two episodes the vision started finally came together, and I'm hoping that season two can continue strong from where it left off.

Alya-san - 5/10 - Yuki is funny as f*** and the one bright spot of the show.

Wistoria - 5/10 - I had a feeling that the visual quality wouldn't be able to live up to the first episode and unfortunately I was right. Still looks good though. Entirely carried by the visuals because this is just generically written slop.
