finally started reading Berserk again yesterday

why is the beginning so different from what i remember about last time i almost started it

i remember last year i read a 16-part “chapter 0” which showed Guts as a kid & the f***ed up s*** that happened, and i stopped before ch1 because it was 200 pages

now i went to start again & ch0 was just some random chapter and ch1 was nowhere near 200 pages

whatever site you were reading it on has the order f***ed up then

if it starts out like this, this is the actual beginning of the book

reason for that f*** up is when berserk originally started, it was on a magazine called animal house and ran for like 16 issues. later down the line it got moved to its current magazine, young animal and they reset the chapter count because of it. so thats why whenever you read it online, the first chapter will say something like "chapter A0". this is only an issue online with certain sites and doesnt happen if you own the book physically

my reading app pulls from MangaFox & readm

the MangaFox one has a confusing order but it has the 16-part ch0

the readm one is the one i started reading yesterday, the ch0 there is Berserk Prototype & the first arc is where Guts one of the Hawks with Casca & Griffin, no Puck with him though

i just looked it up and dawg i dont even know where to start

what app is it that you're using cause not only are you getting an entirely different order of chapters, theyre giving you the outdated translantions for when berserk was semi niche online

i just looked up volume summaries on Wikipedia (trying to avoid too many spoilers) and looks like it started somewhere in Vol. 5 and i’ve read thru Vol. 7??? 😭

try to see if your app can use mangasee as a source. it has berserk in the right order, the official translation, and its in the highest quality. (applies for any other series too)

i figured it out

it wasn’t a random order. it really did start at ch1, just the new ch1, so it skipped the first 16

still a bad translation though so i’m starting over

it’ll be better anyways since i read the first 16 a year ago

i would just avoid that site entirely cause when i skimmed thru that site, one chapter had the official one and then the next chapter was the s***ty fan translations

it doesnt even have the latest chapter that came out 2 months ago either lol
