Just seen Hasan saying one piece is very political in the trash taste podcast and these dudes are laughing at that
how could you not see it after 1000 chapters
Lmao I just saw you responded with the early emoji. That clip going viral two years later is funny as hell.

While it is somewhat political, its not as political as many make it sound lmao, which is not a bad thing, its a story aimed at a huge audience of all ages after all

Idk. It's hard seeing the latest chapter having elite oligarchs hunting and killing poor people not taking political inspiration. While it is still media to consume, a lot of people are constantly denying that One Piece is political in any nature.
I guess my stance is that a piece of media doesn't have to explicitly say
"this is the author's political stance" to be political

Right, it’s not just slightly political. One Piece is built around major themes of social inequality, discrimination, freedom, authority, propaganda, corruption, etc. As Oda himself has said, much of this comes down to basic reading comprehension.
Ppl need to realize that most things are, in fact, political. And that all art, even when it’s not as overt as One Piece, is always open to political interpretation.

Like one of the few anime genres you can say that has no political stance is a slice of life. Even then, it's a stretch because it has commentary on societal issues that Japan deals with.

You're on the right track, bc they are still in fact, political. "Everyday life” always reflects social values. SoL shows normalize certain family roles, societal hierachies, gender expectations, and labor conditions for example. Like, even the act of omitting stuff (like not depicting poverty or marginalized groups) is a political choice.
