further proves likeness is more critical than anything in these types of films, half of Ana’s lines were ‘daddy’ and she wasn’t able to completely hide her accent but it was still a killer performance for me
Like I understand why someone would hate this but I f***ed with this even though it hardly focuses on her as person & blows through various life traumas, it’s a shallow surreal depiction, but still way more interesting than these wikipedia ass biopics
Thought it was okay. Pretty dull for all the artistry it tried to put in. Ana shined as best she could but it felt like a waste. Pretty weak case for NC-17 film too
I do feel like this is a great summation of how Marilyn is treated in pop culture anyways. She's already viewed more as a historical object than human, people dont really look much into her life or works, and we even had a major celebrity just this year show homage to her by squishing herself into an old dress, permanently damaging it, and getting excited by being gifted locs of her hair from a museum. This film and Dominik's recent interviews fit right into all of that perfectly.
Also important to remember this is a fictional story. This is NOT a biopic, most events in the film are NOT real and it WON'T give you any genuine insight into Marilyn.
It's an adaptation of a book that the author stresses is fiction. Definitely can understand how this works better in that format.

u mean she wasnt having threesomes in a movie theater?
had to pause during this whole throuple run to check to see if there was at least some reason they had it in
Apparently she did date both... but at very different times
I’ve never seen more reductive dismissive reviews for a piece of art in my life
Most of the criticism the movie gets is about the way in how it relates to the real Marilyn Monroe, not about the film itself

Great recent example is John C Reily in Winning Time
Dude looks just like Jerry Buss and it’s perfect
But the role almost went to Will Ferrall who looks a lot less like Jerry Buss but would have gave more to the role maybe. (Debatable)
We get any JFK s***scenes? Asking for a friend
Question answered
racism against white people
read what I said. spanish is seen as a ethnic language to most people so even though ana de armas is white she's looked at as ethnic because she speaks the language and has the accent.
In Knives Out they gave her an entire brown Mexican family just because she's latino lol
people are being harder on her for her accent because she's latino. It's the reason why Fassebender received less backlash for his thick german accent while playing Steve Jobs but people can't seem to get over Ana's Spanish accent.
This is painfully mediocre.
This kind of gave me the same vibe as Spencer but nowhere near as good, the picture switching from black and white to color in random scenes was kind of annoying and the pacing felt rushed even though this was almost 3 hours. 6/10 probably won’t rewatch; Ana was good though
yeah this is exactly how I feel I think. just the deconstruction of someone and how they've basically crumbled under the limelight and how they wished they weren't in the position they were in
Just finished and I must say that I quite liked it, don’t really know that much about MM that I can judge of her real life, but I can kinda see where some of the criticism came from. This Monroe in the film came across as kind of dumb and naive lol, idk if she was irl and if it was Ana’s performance or how it was supposed to be. For the rest I think it’s one of the most interesting mainstream movies visually that I’ve seen in a long time. It’s worth the watch just for that. The movie feels like you’re in some sort of nightmare, this movie actually feels like Monroe’s entire life was a fever dream. It reminded me a lot of Franksnheimer’s Seconds in some parts for some reason. But I can understand how ppl would be mad for making a film like this portraying a woman that killed herself, there are barely any scenes in which Monroe is happy or even treated as a human being. Still I think it’s a film that adds something idk.
It's crazy to me that according to the wiki we just recently found out who her dad was in 2022 based off a DNA test.

same w Colin Firth in the staircase mini series looks nothing like the guy but kinda nails the likeness
Would cutting an hour out help?
It didn’t even feel long imo cus the pacing was fast which made the structure suck. None of her relationships was fleshed out or developed and s*** just seemed random af
“Oh I’m dating twins now, now I’m married to a guy I call daddy, now I’m wit this next guy”
My favorite shot/transition has to be the one where she is having the threesome then the bed turns into Niagara Falls. That was a trip
