I don't think this is 100% accurate

but I think the American education system is way more willing to let kids pass through a grade without knowledge of core subjects and concepts, which probably contributes a fair amount to many Americans not understanding fairly simple math or the basic geography of either the world of the U.S.

In college,I've noticed that people who were homeschooled by good parent or spent time a foreign country's education typically find college level work far easier. now maybe that's due to a level of inherent motivation, but I also think that the American education doesn't really push students to learn well, only how to pass exams. if they even require a passing grade at all

I'm a female who is fluent in 4 languages and have been living in an English-speaking country for the past 3 years.

Foreigners don't understand English better than Americans, but they have big advantage of likely being bilingual.

If you live in the Anglosphere you have the convenience of English being lingua franca, so unfortunately no one bothers to learn other languages or are dismissive of them.
