I wanted Nacho to catch Lalo coming out of the house unexpectedly at the end and for Nacho to assume the antagonist position for the final season. After that convo with the Don, I thought that was plausible.

Respectfully i gotta say that would have been out of character

Can't imagine anybody else being close to worthy of killing him tho (assuming he doesn't live past BCS).

True. Gus would need help a lot of help from Mike and the others again to pull it off

I still feel Lalo will be the sole remaining Salamanca.

Hopefully Gilligan creates more side stories within the BB universe with Lalo as a result.

Only Nacho has earned the privilege to kill him.

Gus killing Lalo is too boring
    man had his chance

Not really. They already built him up from victimized lackey to somebody who embraced the morality of the underworld. It was Gus and Lalo who put him back under the thumb. It would make sense if he lashed out. The way it's going now I just see him being another Jesse figure with a more tragic end.

He’s very clearly established that he’s wanted out since the beginning

That's what he tells himself. That's what he told his dad when he put Hector out of commission. He then took over his operation and spiraled out of control. His father wasn't fooled by it. He only wanted out again when Gus put the pressure on him and Lalo usurped his position. With Lalo out of the picture, and Don Eladio in his corner, he could could once again climb the ladder. It'd be more interesting to see him once again embrace that hunger and assure his self destruction than just be another character trying to get out.

I'd rather see Nacho with a pile of coke going out like Scarface than what is actually going to happen. Which will be him and his dad getting executed in the desert somewhere.

I’d rather see him make it out alive with his father. but you make valid points that i hadn’t really taken much consideration in.

I had always seen him as being very honest with his intentions in terms of leaving the cartel

I think he was being sincere with Don Eladio. He's got real ambition. He wants it on his terms though. He keeps getting held down by Tuco and then Hector and now Lalo. It's the same reason he went behind Tuco's back to make his own coin. Why he took down Hector and then tookover his operation. If he winds up in a cabin in the woods I'll be surprised.

Lalo just took down a SWAT team with a frying pan. I don't think Nacho wants that smoke. Mike on the otherhand...

I’ll keep this into consideration but the cast and crew (including Michael Mando himself) always speak about the character as if he’s just trying to find a way out of the cartel without his father paying the price.

And most of his actions have reflected on this intent, for example if he was really trying to take full control of his side of the cartel then i don’t think he would have even remotely cared about Innocent lives being lost when it came to the SWAT Strike on Lalo’s fortress.

It's clear they aren't using him as I would. My interpretation would be he's trapped in the game and so he embraces it. As I said, I'm kind of tired of the arch of all characters with POV being redeemed and wanting to escape.
