I think Amber is just a victim of the way the story is setup. A lot of people just see her as an obstacle getting in the way of Mark and Eve. Also as viewers we see more of Marks side and obviously root for him.

This too, you could clearly see Amber was just that girl Mark was gonna get over so he can be with his real soulmate mannn this making me feel worse and worse now

Yeah it's unfortunate but it's how these things work.

this s*** not sitting right with me.. and the fact that they purposefully changed her race from the comics makes it even more suspicious. Regardless of that, she didn't even do anything wrong, most of her frustrations and reasonings were valid imo

Her race change isn't really involved with anything. She was just a boring character in the comics with a boring plot, and I'm assuming they tried their best to spice it up and condense it into one season

Really race isn't brought up at all in the show or comics. Idk why it's being brought up unless it's just weirdo racists who hate amber more now cause she is black in the show

Probably not best to use the words "spice it up" then. Either way, it looks awfully weird anyway you look at it imo.

Also, race doesn't have to get brought up for it to have certain implications, especially when they intentional changed her character's race.

Ah okay seeing this response I can see the real world implications of changing her race.

But for my spice comment I meant in that it's a different character entirely. Amber was a boring popular school blonde character. In the show they're trying for a more fleshed out character and the subversion of her being smarter and knowing marks identity

I also think this convo more applies to people who read the comics cause the general conversation about show amber I see online is tame for the most part

Not to spoil anything, but the comics deal with her character way better than in the show even though her character in the comics is a more passive character.

Then again, maybe they kept the few good parts of her story for season 2 or they'll go a completely different route since she's not as passive as in the comics.

either ways people gonna hate her more when she tries to flirt with another college boy once again when they get to college. Hopefully they won't do that story beat again and have her as a more friendly character

I’m so lost on the race change discussion surrounding Mark and Debbie. Hell I never even read Invincible but for years I just assumed Invincible and his mom were Asian, and all the fancasts I saw for Invincible waaaay before this show was even a thing had people casting Asian actors

If you asked me “what race is the comic character Invincible” at any point before this show was thought of, I (and a lot of other people) would have said “he’s Asian”. But...I guess not? Robert Kirkman did say he wasn’t thinking about race so there’s that

    It’s kinda funny tho

Lol. But Idk if that can even be said cause even tho his race is never stated in the comics, every time casting him was brought up it was always an Asian actor. Like casting an Asian actor as Invincible was always inevitable

I read the comic and got the same impressions. Can't speak on the artist/writer's intention though. I believe there was an interview where the creator said he changed some of the races of the characters because his initial comic reflected too much of his life in terms of the lack of diversity.

Because her saying that place was like a second home to her, and her having roots there is a big part of what influenced him to join the guy's side.

i can enjoy villain of the week stuff but i don’t think it works in this format. the episodes are 45 minutes long so it feels more like a serialized drama and pretty much every character besides mark has something interesting and mysterious going on that develops throughout the season. i was much more interested in what the robot or darkblood or debbie was doing and so much of the episodes were just focused on s*** like “uhhh mark goes here and fights some guy and it doesn’t really affect or change anything”

Seemed like this was a lot of set up for what's to come as well even with small teasers of characters like Battle Beast.

i think it was good thematically bc of the contrast between her and titan's family

i think that's what really set it off for mark and influenced him to help

The reason I wasn't as much annoyed with Amber as a lotta people were, was simply because they teenagers y'all lmao. And besides that, not everyone is gonna handle lies the same. Don't matter that she knew about Mark, it's the principle of all the bullshitting that she just won't get with, which is perfectly understandable imo. Yeah, she could've been written better for sure (robot n em had better arcs) but I see where she's coming from.

It made sense for Amber to react in that manner. Prior to that, she was already shown to be condescending and b****y.
