YES YES YES I LOVED THIS! F***. My nigga Garland is 4/4 or at least 3.5/4
Enjoyed that it wasn’t as action driven as the trailers led to believe.
This movie 100% did not need a “choose a side” type narrative and I’m glad they kept it neutral. S*** would’ve been corny if the characters were heavy pushing “left” or “right”
The mystery behind the war and president was cool too. I don’t care for exposition or having s*** explained. I like just being thrown into the middle of action.
I’m a little confused by the ending tho, for those who seen y’all prolly know what I’m talking about.
Also I’ve been f***in with Caliee since Bad times at El Royale and I’m really sold on her now. Aliens is gonna be great.
I’m glad her character is a grown woman in this. Originally I wasn’t sure if she was playing someone’s little child. She looks young but she carries herself as a grown woman and it was dope to see her arc in this.
"In the near future, a group of war journalists attempt to survive while reporting the truth as the United States stands on the brink of civil war."
This is the synopsis. What the f*** is the truth?
I was not feeling this at all. Interested in seeing everyone's opinions though.
That everyone is f***ed up and don’t even know who they are fighting against or for what.
I thought that Christmas place scene gave the basis of the movie when dude said “idk they shot at us so we’re shooting back”

Also if you’re gonna judge that, they aren’t on the brink of a civil war, they are right in the middle of one when the movie starts
That and the sound design. This went crazy in Dolby
saw it in imax & it was terrifying lmao

Not even the middle I’d say, pretty much the tail end
I think the marketing leaned into the war aspect when it’s really more the world that the characters are adapted to, almost makes it feel dystopian even if it’s more based in reality

I wanted to say that, but I didn’t know if it would be a spoiler.
the president getting killed basically showcases the end of the war
Kirsten Dunst character is dead right? I’m confused why they walked away from her like nothing happened. When oh boy died they was screaming and crying to no end. Like nobody checked her body or anything

ending is still the part I’m trying to pick through, through the whole film we see a hardened and cold Lee become more and more sympathetic to things around her and ultimately it costs her life, whereas Jessie starts off extremely sympathetic and naive and through each event it hardens her further, to the point by the end she’s now the one that takes a picture of Lee dying after posing the question. I think Lee deleting Sammy’s death photo showed she was on a different path. As for how sudden it ended, it showed how unimportant the president was to them. What mattered most was the quote and the photo, once that was accomplished there was nothing more to it.

I’m totally fine with all of that, and understand those elements. Look at my post above that I put in spoilers

I feel like their coldness is intentional. Makes me wonder if Lee’s defensive walls made it hard for them to fully sympathize with her. But more likely is that they were so amped from being close to their goal, that stopping to mourn her then and there would prevent what their whole journey was for.

do you think that’s true to the dudes character tho. I can maybe understand Caliees character because of her arc. But the dude (forgot his name) just became cold out of nowhere. He didn’t arc from sympathetic to cold, he just suddenly became cold in that moment. Even someone in the theater questioned if she was really dead because she’s wearing a vest and how everyone was like meh, and kept it moving
That’s probably my only issue. I think it would’ve made more sense if dude was trying to hover over the body, emotional, and Caliee being the one to tell him “we still got a job to do” or some s\*\*\*. Rather than him just acting like he didn’t give a f\*\*\*

yeah I was surprised by his reaction more then Jessie’s. But I think there was alittle establishment in that first fight they took photos of how amped he gets from being close to the action. I think if they showed him becoming more and more consumed on getting that quote rather than remorseful of his group it would’ve flowed better. For now I’ll just put it on the heat of the moment and how he was fully squared in on talking to the President
This the main character of the film, she just sacrificed her life because Caliees dumb ass was running around reckless. Not ONE person is gonna cry for her?? Yet y’all was all up in arms damn near drowning in tears over the random Chinese dude getting killed

Gets amped from action, yes. But let’s remember when his friends started getting clapped by Jesse Plemons….wasn’t no excitement from him. Dude was an emotional wreck. Idk if just doesn’t seem true to his character because he didn’t arc like Caliee did

yeah.. I’m still pondering on it, they were one room away from the president. They did make a point to show they didn’t really mourn Sammy until they got to safety. Also as for the other guys they thought they were gonna die then and there lmao I’d be crying if I had a gun held to me. They had time to mourn after. i think the movie didn’t want to show them mourn right away also cause I feel part of the message is how opportunistic they were in getting these “perfect” shots of death and destruction. The mission was all that mattered by that point, that quote from the pres. Or maybe he was colder then we we’re lead to believe
“You see, Missouri, Colorado…that’s American”
Plemons steals the show once again
Plemons steals the show once again
that first kill of his was so f\*\*\*in sudden…like you expected it but at the same time didn’t
A few nitpicks but a masterclass . As I said before movie you can’t squeeze a “ it was because if religion , money , power “ in there nor should you
