Two watches, and this is up with my top movies of the year. Loved it, and wouldn't mind going to see it a third time right goddamn now. Cruise absolutely snapped. The entire movie, but the big monologue specifically is just...so so good. Everything John Goodman was doing was flawless. Riz's performance went over better for me on the second watch. Stuhlbarg was...there doing things lmao. Put Jesse Plemons in all the movies. This s*** was very funny. And energetic. And visually entrancing with the sets. Also hard to not notice the immaculate blocking in pretty much every scene. I get the inclusion of the daughter subplot but I don't even think it needs it if it wasn't going to be expanded on more. 4.5/5

It was for Plemon’s character. my interpretation was that he’s the same as Digger (real) just in the modern age. Reminds me of a Peter Thiel type character, where they wholly believe in what they’re doing is good. He has this surveillance company that’s able to locate anyone anywhere and while on paper sounds nice, it can be assumed that he’s part of the “technocracy” or whatever the spray paint said. It also helped ground Digger (cruise) when he thought his daughter was lost at sea. But tldr, I think primarily, it was used to show Plemon’s is of the same cloth as Digger (real).

after the scene where she lost we see them on a plane and it makes clear it’s a Rockwell plane . Originally Jose says she wasn’t on the plane . We hear the flight attendant say end the call or else. Plemons is in background and listening to his actor and all times. He also taunts him with break a leg which is what his daughter said

yea he's the digger of the new age when you see the last scene surveillance is probably the main evil of their time but he doesn't see the similarities
