Because a song is on some fun s*** for people to enjoy doesn’t mean it’s “brain dead”. I hate pretentious music criticism. Both What’s Neck and even Toosie are quite intelligently written beyond surface level. Toosie a song purely about running up on enemies masked as a dance track 💀 + He is just witty lyrically on What’s Next.

Fully with you on all fronts, his lyrics do age very well and I get that song is for Tik Tok, I think that flip from the song with thug “summer all I did was rest” that I mentioned before is meant to be the “I only love my bed and my momma” of the song to make it viral, but it’s not all the way toosie slide meme worthy so I feel like it’s stuck in a middle ground because it’s not outwardly corny on purpose (Hotline Bling)

I see this point as well maybe brain dead is a strong term and I get the disguised thing Drake is calculated and isn’t just making stupid music. He just doesn’t hit the mark every single time when reaching for irony IMO as no artist does
