I enjoyed it. But it wasn’t anything special in my eyes. I’ve heard better political records. Spoken word is not really my thing but I f***ed with the jazz music he threw in there. But I still only had like a few songs on there that I liked and the others were skips for me. So much for groundbreaking hip hop album.

He just dropped it at a great time and almost every black person ate it up. Paid more attention to the message than the actual music. It was not great sonically. Just good.

NWA pushed the buck decades prior with the content Kendrick pushed with TPAB. TPAB was lauded because it dealt with political matters (in the climate it was released in) and a grandiose sound.

I actually get irked when people discredit TPAB because people are more about Bops than the content rappers put out.

GKMC & TPAB are my two favourite albums for moments in my life (and TPAB for my political education) the same way Drake's albums are. A differing opinion doesn't mean someone dislikes an artist.

You can call someone the MJ of a genre but sports/music are totally different professions whereby you can't judge them by the same metrics. An example, despite someone putting up numbers in their sport and despite artists putting up numbers another artist can have great albums and numbers but because there are subjective categories that people want them to satisfy, they judge them differently.

It was one of the four albums that is in the Harvard library.

It's influenced is seen far and wide and it directly influenced Lemonade, Atrocity Exhibition, David Bowies last album etc.

The reason the movie was made was because how much of an impact and genre/culturally defining the album "Straight Outta Compton" was.

They are literally iconic because of that. Do you apply that same logic to 2pac/Biggie, were they not genre defining?
