Ghetto LennyHe represented what Kendrick was supposed to do during a half time show. That why he praised “All The Stars” because that’s the type of song someone would expect during a normal halftime show. Not Peekaboo.
The whole theme of the point the performance was that Kendrick was going to perform the way he wanted to and not what America is expecting.
Once he said “you picked the right time but the wrong guy” I knew what time it was

This isnt rick and morty the message isnt super hidden or "takes an high level of intelligence"

It was just a generally subversive direction which makes sense because this was a subversive performer to choose
Sam Jackson (former BPP member) playing Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam calling him (first solo rap act on SB) too ghetto and to appease “the American game.” Him championing his new album instead of falling back on a legacy format like other. Name dropping Drake. Serena Williams. Dudes with grills schmeezing at the top3 whitest event of the year.
It ain’t too deep but it’s unapologetic, well thought out, and well executed

Apart from them being emblematic pieces of Kendrick’s artistic ethos (pulling from quotes where he explains what the two songs mean to him, & quotes on his “mission statement” re: “Kung-Fu Kenny”, DAMN,) I’d argue he may have considered both songs to be permissible concessions to Sam’s demands because they stylistically maintained the hip-hop “grit” that set them apart from the other commercially viable songs from DAMN (loyalty, love)
