Jay Cicero, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and a Super Bowl LIX Host Committee member explained, “It is the NFL’s decision alone for all entertainment for the Super Bowl. We found out about it at the same time everyone else did this past weekend.”

Anyone who believed Jay is actually handpicking these people are a bit naive. I get it Jay is Jay but in this instance he isn’t bigger than the NFL. If they wanted Wayne it would’ve happened.

If we gon hold him accountable for performing at the SB then we should hold every black person associated and doing business wit the NFL the same way imo. But we don’t

Celebrities in general, but I guess I don't like the way people use that line to defend him all the time

I don’t think he is above criticism but most of the time people are just spamming “FAKE BLACK MESSIAH” instead of actually critiquing. It’s disingenuous, niggas have more smoke for Kendrick than people getting rich off selling the lowest form of the “culture”.

Uhh yeah that's exactly what people wanted to do but players don't really have spines and Jay stepped in and said we're past kneeling and covered it with black halftime performers

People weren’t even that serious about it back then. Most people were just trend hopping wit the “boycott” lol honestly I wasn’t even watching football around that time so It was easy for me to rock wit Kaep but as things progressed It started to come off to me as more about the personal gripe between Kaep and the NFL, and his image… less about the movement he was under fire for.

Like you said most players weren’t following up, and it didn’t stop black people and brands doing any deals wit the NFL. Them using Jay to “smooth things over” was a lay up lol

Nah, it wasn't a trend hopping situation in the beginning. The problem became Kaep didn't have a platform or solution and thought he could "protest" freely about vague injustices. People stopped caring and continued to watch football

I’m not saying everyone was trend hopping but I didn’t see much of a difference in the attitude towards football offline. Black people I knew were still watching even those who agreed with Kaep. Only speaking on what I saw.

But yeah you’re right about that too. Which is why I agreed wit Jay when he said kneeling and protesting is great but what happens next? But I also never expected Jay partnering up wit the NFl to have some actual impact in race relations lol

lol so now we just gotta deflect and say people weren't serious and that Kaep wasn't vilified for kneeling and standing up (ironic) for what he believed in
