    ICEMAN KIR

idk why but post 2016 it feels like a lot of artists lost the ability to be widely appealing and i mean that both on the "lyrical" and "underground" (ie. post-soundcloud) ends

like sure the big 3 generation might not always hit when they make turn up/trap/hype songs but they have a pretty good track record

@lightmagic said it in another thread but I don't think it was the artists but it was what the labels pushed.

like this is chance-coded. It comes out in 2015 and it's probably a hit instead of just a throwaway.

Songs like Doo Wop as they are would not be a hit if they had came out in this decade lmao.

I keep repeating it and repeating it but you cannot tell me a song that is basically "Respectability Politics: The Song" would have popped off in 2025 the way that it popped off in 1998 bruh I'm telling ya

  • I forgot this came out tbh

Assuming the timeline isn't fractured it could still work
I reckon Chiraq the movie gets erased from existence on this timeline too

They tie the song into the meme about Yearning & there'd be a dating app trend with girls saying 'You better not be about That Thing until we've had a few dates '

Let me fire up the time machine actually, this way Erykah Badu can finally get the credit that Lauryn Hill undeservedly gets

Using one of the catchiest and most well produced and performed songs of the late 20th century in any genre isn’t a fair example of this idea

  • Nah let her have fun . People not giving her respect either way . In women rap Simz and can Tierra whack can rap their ass off while never getting the same respect as doechii. Let them have fun

  • The reason artist change up what they do is because they see how much infinitely better they rap than others while never getting the same looks at all

Meg doechii Nicki cardi are viewed as pinnacle of women rap . While others can’t even get a play

  • The thing is, most of them do it badly and really genetically

There's literally no point for it existing, not for the fans, nor potential fans - it serves no one, and I don't think it serves the artist themselves neither

    It's a nothing

  • damn. Lotus was good i'm surprised this is what her new joint sounds like
