WHY DOES EVERYBODY THAT IS "LYRICAL, MIRACLE" THINK EXPERIMENTING MEAN "HEY I CAN MAKE A TURN UP SONG TOO" LIKE DAWG NOOOOOOO BRO STAY IN YOUR LANE.

I KNOW I USED TO SAY WE SHOULD ALLOW FOLKS TO BRANCH OUT AND EXPERIMENT AND I KEPT THIS IN MY CHEST EVEN WHEN YACHTY GAVE US THAT DOO DOO BUTTER ON A PLATTER BUT NAH BRO I TAKE IT ALL BACK. STICK TO YOUR LANE.

BECUASE THERE IS NO REASON I SHOULD BE HEARING LITTLE SIMZ ON A MOTHERFUCKING RAGE BEAT DAWG THIS RAGE S*** IS A CANCER BRO F*** OUTTA HERE.

(I HEARD IT SO YALL GOTTA HEAR IT TOO)

THIS IS GARBAGE! WHY DO ALL THE RAPPING/WEIRD RAPPERS THINK TO TURN UP AND GO MAINSTREAM THEY GOTTA KOTOW TO THE STATUS QUO?

REMEMBER BACK WHEN NIGGAS DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE TURN UP MUSIC...TO MAKE TURN UP MUSIC? DOO WOP WAS TURN UP MUSIC, MS. FAT BOOTY WAS TURN UP MUSIC. MS JACKSON WAS TURN UP MUSIC. AND MOS DEF DIDNT HAVE TO HOP ON A BAD BOY BEAT TO DO IT, LAURYN HILL DIDNT HAVE TO HOP ON A SWIZZ BEATZ BEAT TO DO IT, AND OUTKAST DIDNT HAVE TO HOP ON A DIRTY SOUTH BEAT TO F***ING DO IT.

    BE DIFFERENT!!!!!

  • That song really f***ed up my morning Oblivion.

weren't u saying rappers jus have to be "consistent" n that not everything has to be lyrical music

also the "rage is cancer" s*** feels unusually narrowminded, not to mention this barely qualifies as said genre

(with Love).. simz is just corny at the end of the day. oscillates between overly "i'm a Black-BRITISH" gyal proximity to white appeal and genuinely moving conscious hip-hop. its not really surprising shes this reductive about wat 'turn up' music from her should sound like

ur saying be different but.. then describe a precedent where this Isnt the norm for rappers of her ilk. i like that she tries to get out of her comfort zone on EPs like this.. but the point should be that, it's jus not very good -- not that its an entirely wrong practice

andre hopping on intl players anthem/the ends/decemba remix/throw some d's are some of my favorite cuts. i wouldn't mind at all if lauryn or yasiin had more moments like that throughout their careers

It's like I literally say "I used to say..." and then added "I take it back" and NO. It is just NOT good bro lol.

intl players anthem and decemba aren't your "typical" bangers either btw lmao.

Lauryn and Yasiin never doing s*** like that adds to what made them great and stand out

we never disagreed that its not good. that just flies over the point

n i never said those were typical bangers.. but uve jus reaffirmed that those were certainly well thought out outliers in 3k's catalog (i.e., if ure gonna deviate - be intentional and make it great)

andre stands out too, but for doing the exact opposite of the other 2. lauryn never released another full length for us to say otherwise and its telling that yasiin's discography constantly getting shuffled away from being truly accessible hampers his legacy with future gens, beyond never having moments like wat 3k managed the last decade

  • Lyrical rappers make the corniest non lyrical music that’s why folks like Pac Hov Drake and Kendrick are forever impressive

Andre is also an outlier bro lol.

Lauryn Hill I personally count as two albums as that unplugged was underrated asf to me.

Yasiin Bey's discography getting scuffled away is his own doing. He decided to not let the ecstatic be on streaming

  • she should jus make a full length alté/afrobeats jont since she seems to put one on every album w obongjayar. maybe collab w odunsi / amaarae / len / lancey foux

    or some bossa nova s***

hell i'll even take a drill record on sum chy cartier / headie s***

  • There’s already a That’s a No No and it’s can’t be topped. RIP!

  • This song is not very good but shes allowed some stinkers here and there with her track record...

  • That 808 melody is frying me what key is that even in

  • I see your point but would like to add Little Simz is hardly lyrical miracle

I don't completely agree with the topic, but I can't lie this song makes your argument valid lol

I'm telling you bruh maybe I was being a bit harsh in the op but I was that mad, some artists just gotta know, hey this experimentation aint for me.

I blame YOU NIGGAS (the proverbial "you niggas" so if it dont apply let it fly) that created the zeitgeist where literally NOTHING can be a hit unless it's over the same 5-10 beat presets.

Hip hop singles used to sound different from each other man.

  • S*** trash, like ion completely agree with op but that song is dogwater. Lowkey, this how I feel about turn up bangers from dudes like ab soul actually

  • The issue isn’t that she shouldn’t make rage music… it’s that she can’t make rage music

  • CRACKASTEPPAVEGAN

I'm telling yall the more yall try to disagree the more you realize....

  • Yes. Some niggas need to realize that they have a lane and it's okay. Not everybody needs to be on some DAMN. s*** tryna mix "bangers" in with lyrical tracks for mass appeal.

The opposite is also true, some niggas just not experimental man. They can of course attempt it but it will not be "good". I remember saying this in the Rocky thread and niggas wanted my head lol

  • anyone remember the jid baby kia song lol

    Here's how a nigga KNOW I'm right:

Yall niggas would hate if kankan or nine vicious or migos or any of these dudes made an album full of nothing but jay versace, conductor, and alchemist beats.

except we already heard how carti sounded on an alchemist beat just off the hook and it was muy malo

  • plus even if you liked it the masses around would just call it "lol dust" even though we are going on 20+ years with the same trap s*** lol.

Yeah carti but what if nine vicious is hiding serious lyrical abilities

idk why but post 2016 it feels like a lot of artists lost the ability to be widely appealing and i mean that both on the "lyrical" and "underground" (ie. post-soundcloud) ends

like sure the big 3 generation might not always hit when they make turn up/trap/hype songs but they have a pretty good track record
