i think software companies are kinda screwed (all software should be free anyway), but hardware synth companies might be better off. There's no way the m-vave would have sold as much as it did if not for the firmware mods

there was a post on the elektron forum where someone set up some program to interface a chatbot and a digitone2 so that it would change parameters to make a patch with the sound you ask it for.

i dont know why you would buy a synth that expensive and get a robot to use it for you though
