I honestly find this álbum very uderwhelming, like i apreciate the fact that he puts so many different sounds in here but sometimes it feels too much, some of the songs don't have Amy type of flow and go nowhere
Yep slept on it. Woke up and put it on this morning. Now that the initial hype and curiosity is not there I can confidently say this is Starboy replay value at best.
I’ll get back to you on that!
Repeat after me, Until i bleed out, Snowchild, Too Late, Hardest to love
of the songs that weren't singles. looking forward to reading the rest of your review.
Is this the official album thread?
Nah this was for before the album dropped

Enjoying it more now, but I can tell there isn't going to be some massive realisation where everything clicks and the entire project is elevated to something truly special. It's all pretty face value. And tbh, that's fine. This is the biggest artist in the world going about his work and creating the kind of music he wants to create, and that's a bit of a trip as it is. I'm fine with that. Decent album. Nice divider between his great works (Trilogy, KL, MDM) and his not-so-great works.
Can't excuse Snowchild though. What an awful song. Robs the album of any momentum and adds so little. I was one of the few who disliked Tell Your Friends though, so not expecting this to be a popular opinion. Every other song is at least passable.

Strip the album and delete Hardest To Love, Scared To Live, Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes and Save Your Tears... then you have The Weeknd. Then it is his project. Because the rest of it is Max Martin. But I guess all his albums since BBTM has been collaborations with that guy. Hence The Weeknd going more pop and becoming a super-star. More money being thrown on it. I cant knock it, but now we will always get the face-value music that has a bop and sound good, that will chart. It just sounds so "over-produced" though. I hate that term.
He swinging for the fences on every song. Like I saw someone else say on twitter yesterday. Every song is like a movie soundtrack. Get it, but nah. Not great music imo. Becuase he isnt saying anything and I dont connect with it. I find the songs boring, empty and hollow.
I would also strip away Snowchild and maybe the intro actually. Becuase I particularly dont care about those songs either.
Im at 7/14 outta songs but I think it that will be it now. I had only 4 saved yesterday but I added another 3 that I like more today.
Im giving the album 4/10. And Im disappointed, but I see it for it is now. Dont get me wrong because he is not making totally bad music, just that his music is just not for me anymore or has been for a few albums.

Lol I like snowchild. But I also like Attention from Starboy which everyone hated so I’m guessing It’s along the same lines.
Snowchild
Escape from LA
Faith
Blinding Lights
After Hours
I f***s with all those
The absolute peak of this album is in faith when Abel gives no ticks and demands “if I od / I what you to follow right behind”.
You prob have an apex Abel if you take the best of MDM and the best of After Hours and put them together. But that’s hyperbole.
Also blinding lights might be a SOTY contender. Mind is still being blown listening to it today. Pop Abel at his ultimate best.

I have time for Attention tbh, but it's just something I'd bop my head to when it comes on during the album rather than a track I seek out actively.
Blinding Lights really is a very special song. If he could have kept that level up throughout, this album would have been utterly crazy. As it is, most of the songs are a fair bit sloppier, especially some of the melodies during the verses - which jars so much because most of the hooks are actually super strong. Could have been a really great album. Ah well.
