assigning numbers to art is an imperfect practice for sure, but it still has some purpose.

at least cataloging your rough opinion of a piece of art makes you engage with it more thoughtfully, be able to place it in the context of other art/movements, and lets you have a list of everything you've consumed, so you don't forget it.

i get what you're saying, but pretty much every activity we engage in as humans is an IMPERFECT practice, but still has utility. Like using language, for example

yea. i get where you're coming from. I watch alot of movies for example, and it's nice to have a list of my ratings to look back on.

a number can never properly summarize your experience of a piece of art, but at least I have an attempt I can look back on 3 years later for a movie I woulda forgot i watched.

RYM has 3 radiohead albums in its top 10 albums of all time lol

new albums with hype usually get rated highly and it the top but later fall down pretty fast after a while

I gave it 3.5 stars

You can probably expect it to dip and then rise back up after the year ends to a comfortable spot
