The problem with Lizzo is multi layered. Yes she makes target centered music and yes, it’s safe and inoffensive for the most part which runs the cardinal sin of being boring.

The difference between then and now is the kayfabe is all but gone especially since the weight loss (i lowkey feel this bout Adele too am I bugging or did none of the hits from her last album stick like that?). When your biggest source of victimhood/subject matter is practically gone what does the audience buy into?

Back then, Lizzo was the fat girl that everyone rallied around and critics hated her for it. Created a push and pull so that even if there was a possibility she could be problematic behind the scenes it dont matter cause she standing up for body positivity.

Without all of that, all you got left is a plus size girl who is reportedly hard to work with behind the scenes, got a weird controversy involving her dancers and bullying someone else plus size, and allegedly stole somebody man (I only say this cause there’s a song on here called she stole my man talk bout lack of self awareness)

Tl;dr: fat girl singing bout being fat no longer fat now just a self obsessed mean girl singing “phenomenal black woman” tier pop songs that aint gon relate to her audience.

  • I say all that as one of them ones that was 10 Toes down for big Lizzo

But that “everybody hates me” gimmick gets old once it turns out you actually come off as hatable.

yep. Basically the remaining pop stars left all have a fanbase who buys physicals.

  • I will forever hate her because I had to hear that Minnesota Vikings song no joke 10+ times a day when I was working

anyway you slice, 3,000 copies first week for an artist of her caliber and popularity simply does not really add up. that's a crazy drop. I'm willing to hear out all potential theories on this one but wow.

    It's 2026

The idea of an artist being big and their past s*** mattering when they drop a new project is over

You need a story/narrative or a single/multiple singles that earn you new hype

And Lizzo was never really the type of artist people were tuned into on some "I gotta hear what this project sounds like or what she's saying" to begin with. The only people who get instant attention are the GOATs/vanguards: Beyonce Rihanna Kanye Drake Jay Z Taylor maybe Kendrick Carti and YB. Everyone else has to earn this s*** Everytime now

It's. Because. No. One. Is. Interested.

Lizzo had a song WITH Sexy Red called Hoes for a big movie (Scary Movie 6) and it still has not broke a million views on youtube.

    Dawg, people just aren't interested.

it's almost like if she had instead developed her art to delve into more than just "i'm fat deal with it yo" (Like we haven't had other fat artists before that didn't make it their bread and butter, hell notorious big is in the name and he aint play the victim card) maybe her music would've not aged and therefore she woulda lasted long within an audience.

When you create such a paralyzing image of yourself that when you lose weight, some of your fans make tweets MAD at you for...losing weight? Yeah man something was done wrong here lol.

@SOLARIS that scandal f***ed her up big time.

Yeah, she aint the first artist to have a s***scandal or the first artist to be told they're "hard to work with" HOWEVER if you come into the game on some "woe is me I'm fat" gimmick just to be found out by a corroborated lawsuit that includes you bullying one of your dancers for being fat?

Bro niggas is not gonna f*** with you dawg lmaooooo
