Fitting 30 songs in 1 hour 17 mins is impressive if anything

    “impressive” or “a disgrace”?

Carti clearly doesn’t have the range to craft a good song longer than 3 minutes

everything i said about long albums vs. short albums applies to songs too

too many artists suffer from being unable to record more than 2 verses per song

A lot of people who pretended to agree with OP are in a thread celebrating 30 tracks from Carti. Very funny

Also it’s about respect for the audience and the album as an artform.

Most people don’t have an hour and a half to spare every single day to listen to an album in its entirety.

By making your tracklist 20+ songs and 80-90+ minutes in length, you’re indirectly asking fans to choose their favorite songs and add them to their playlists rather than experience the entire album in the format it was intended to be experienced in.

I will always respect shorter tracklists more than longer ones because it’s an exercise in restraint and a challenge for the artist to put their best foot forward and use their jurisdiction to trim what they think is excess

I'm more a fan of shorter albums and a tighter listens but nah you can't say this.

At the end of the day it's art, there's no rules to it. Just cause the album is long doesn't mean they're indirectly asking you to not enjoy it as an album experience.

    But they are, indirectly.

The average person does not have the time in their day to listen to a 30 song album start to finish or a 90 minute album start to finish.

What does the average person not being able to listen to the album in one sitting have to do with the artist and their art ?

the moment we started commodifying music we were cooked and we did that with 30 songs albums and the question you just posed cause now music is competing in the attention economy.

People make time for other entertainment daily i think that’s just a preferred hobby issue. we used to go out and buy CDs and really sit down with s***. Granted life is way faster pace now but yeah it’s a commodity now

You gotta understand we the vast minority. People like us dedicate time out of our day to post and discuss this s*** on a niche Internet forum.

You’re assuming that people only like ONE artist though. The average person is a fan of numerous artists, genres, albums, etc.

Non-stans ain’t dedicating that much time out of their already busy and hectic days to consume one album front to back

It’s simple. An artist that releases a shorter / more concise project is demanding the listener to consume it as intended, especially when there are less songs to choose from.

When the casual listener opens a new album on streaming and sees 20-25+ songs or a 90 minute runtime, they’re more inclined to engage with that album buffet-style.

Personal anecdotes aren’t fact or law, but I got a close friend who’s a casual fan of Carti. He saw the 30 song tracklist, went to the songs with the features he was most interested in, and tapped out

this entire “short albums >>> long albums” argument was already disproven years ago when Kanye followed up TLOP with ye

A long album with some really strong highlights vs a short album of straight mid proved the point?

  • Mar 14, 2025

This Carti album should not be 30 tracks

I mean yeah, the causal listener is more likely to listen to a full album if it's shorter because it's less time investment.

But what does the consumption patterns of the casual listeners have to do with what the artist intends for their art to be ?

An artist who makes a long album can very much still want their listeners to engage with it as a full album experience the same way an artist who makes a shorter album does.

That’s what the word “indirectly” means man

Meaning, they’re not intending for that to be the case, but that’s what ends up happening
