Rocky from 2014-2022 was WAY more underexposed than he had any right to be

Maybe im just being nostalgic but it felt like the cozy tapes and AWGE era had a lot momentum behind it, those where my peak Rocky stan days and i remember a lot of people my age being excited for Testing.

I noticed this esp start to be true around 2023 cuz I’ve always been vocal about rocky being one of my fav rappers ever and he grew a lot just from the strength of his legacy as his albums became known as classics

I was in HS when Testing came out and by that point NOBODY at my school listened to rocky

Last song I remember making waves w my irl folks was Yamborhini High and then eventually Sundress/Praise Da Lord caught on

But my lil bro is in 11th rn and him and all his friends are obsessed with Rocky like hes a god. They care about tyler and rocky more than drake and kendrick

I’ve been a testing truther for years but i listened to it again for the first time in a year yesterday a lot of it was solid but this new album really puts into perspective how hit or miss people were saying it was now.

They did have a lot ya but I don’t think he was respected or seen with the same respect as back then, he had an interesting reputation as like this fashion party guy less than as an artsy creative

For sure I think a lot of people have retrospectively realized how good he is

I know I did. Rocky is in my top 10 oat and nobody can tell me differently, there arent 10 rappers I enjoy more than him

I like the idea of testing and the best songs are amazing and nothing is terrible to me

But this feels so much more expanded fun and creative man

True it really is an odd effect maybe it’s the Tyler affiliation but his artistry was weirdly very undermined if u go to old reviews of his s*** u see it too of people acting like he’s tryhard fake deep’ing s*** on ALLA and his bag is party hard songs or something lol very interesting how this just like shifted with time

Really hope he drops another album this decade because if this is what he’s giving us then we need more

I do think testing has higher highs and is a bit less consistent however I still need more time. This is def more upbeat and high momentum and varied but I think testing has the benefit of just how unique the world is idk it’s very neck and neck

That being said this s*** always makes me cry tears of joy

Rocky has an insane discog lol anyone who listens to rocky id always tell them to check out basically all his projects they all are unique and important thats kinda rare

I think there are a lot of people who think he earned more than he really did. They came in late so they didn’t realize that he failed and never lived up to his promise but his looks and relationships were enough to carry him into noteriety with a new gen

First 6 songs are def more accessible but after that no trespassing is a transition stop snitching is acessible then it just goes crazy lol. No trespassing is like a bunch of stop signs stop snitching is a buffer and stfu is the car crashing

Hes not a very deep or lyrical rapper but he is deeply creative and original and has made so many great songs

Also in retrospect Tyler & Rocky linking was amazing for both of their careers and Rocky was mature and clearly cared about what that meant for the culture more than his ego
