There's a belief that he's racist because he doesn't cast Black, Asians, or Latinos in many of his movies.

When he gave an explanation it was pretty weak. Basically saying he has nothing wrong with casting PoC in his films but he's against putting them in there just for the sake of it because it wouldn't fit the aesthetics of his films. To him Blacks, Asians, Latinos aren't seen as Gothic or Victorian enough for his aesthetic.
