I was lowkey prepared to be bored by this, despite loving his previous films, but found it very engaging tbh. The only thing that didn't land 100% for me was the ending.

Really? Feel like the ending was the best part that really tied it all together

Yeah, i'd say that it does. I guess the present time scene just caught me off guard, because I got so immersed in the movie prior. Might've been part of Glazer's idea one way or another ig

Not sure how I feel about this yet. Gonna need to sit with it more

The ending to me felt like here’s the aftermath of the horror done by this seemingly regular family we’ve been following but imo that was already clearly displayed to us through out the whole movie with the gunshots and screams we’d hear, the father washing ash off from him after taking his kids swimming in the river, he was also f\*\*\*ing the prisoners, the kids reaction to hearing torture, kids collecting teeth, the mother gifting her servers clothing from dead Jewish people and keeping a coat for herself, her found a diamond in the toothpaste story, etc. So maybe the ending was supposed to be the big exclamation point but I had already seen enough to know they were evil

Idk I wouldn’t put it past me to have missed something and I’ve liked a movie more after reflecting plenty of times

I do think Glazer did great everytime he showed the horrors happening in the background without having to blatantly tell us. It was always done well. Also the grandma coming to visit and waking up to the furnace burning as the children are accustomed to it and get sleep through leading her to leave was powerful

guess where I found this diamond

imo all the regular family stuff wasn’t there to show you how “evil” the family is, it’s to show you how normal and human they are. We like to look at these types of people as monsters, but they’re human and they’re not that far away from us. This is what we humans can be capable of, and it’s not just extraordinary people that commit these atrocities or let them happen. Look at how everyone’s supporting what Israel’s doing right now. This is human nature. “The banality of evil.” This is what we are capable of. The final act is talking about this huge extermination plan that Hoss is leading, and he talks about how proud he is that he’s getting this responsibility. They throw a whole party. He calls his wife to give her the good news, is proud of what his legacy will be. Then it shows his body revolting against what he’s saying, the cognitive dissonance is on display. Hes retching. Then it cuts to what his actual legacy is.

This is basically the film version of the documentary The Act Of Killing

I understood the family is supposed to show how regular they act and if they can be evil anyone can and I mentioned it was done well.

But at the same time throughout the movie they go out their way to remind us that they’re still evil with the examples I had listed. That’s why to me the ending didn’t do much besides show us again what the rest of the movie had already shown. He’s calling his wife happy about the promotion, a normal relationship thing to do, then cut here’s the aftermath of that promotion

Like I said, maybe it was supposed to be the final exclamation point of the whole movie
