Honestly I think there is room for that level of seriousness and at times requires it as long as that isn't the only tone.

People talk about color grading but if you don't have tonal contrast it's boring.

You have the Parr family being goofballs in the same movie where Bob believes he just witnessed his family blow up in a plane and threatens to snap a woman's neck in retaliation.

And they also come down from that scene in a non goofy quippy way
