From 2 albums for 40 million to 5 for 500 mil
New deal might be for 10 albums
Edit: or they not paying per album and gon recoup on that 500 mil by selling a s*** ton of merch, vinyl etc and put his songs in every movie and tv show since hes licensing his music to them/Universal
The deal isn't just for new albums. It's also to retain the rights to his masters for his older albums for some more years.
Think of the deal as a Super Max deal in the NBA. It also works as Lucian Grainge's way of rewarding Drake for sticking with them and making them a s*** ton of money in the 2010s. He isn't giving that kind of deal to anyone else (maybe Taylor Swift, but she just joined the UMG family and would have to generate a s*** ton of money for them to be worth that kind of deal).
It's 100% bait lol watch it be about something not music related or him say he's not going anywhere anytime soon
Retiring from the OVO league as the MVP
The concept of a graceful exit entering his mind doesn’t mean it’s imminent. Forward planning brehs
He could mean a plan for 3-5 years time
he hasn’t even hit his artistic potential yet imo so that would be sad

Bur his potential as a mogul and businessman is only at the beginning. Imagine how many more things Drake and his team could work on if he stopped making music and went exec full time.

Yeah I can’t believe how much traction this got lol it’s def not gonna be about him hanging it up

Who gives af about that
probably Drake and his relentless ambition to secure coin
it won't make sense to fans today, but when 6 God gets to 6 Billi people will realize he made this sacrifice for a reason

production value and color grading looks a+
looking forward to this. very rare drake full length serious interview
this is from 3 months ago?
Yeah, I'm assuming it's from when they shot the "We Caa Done" Music Video.
The first deal was for 2 albums but the label was able to get some wiggleroom using the wording of the contract to release So Far Gone as an EP since the contract didn't explicitly state that they couldn't do that.
He resigned for a 3-album deal right before Nothing Was the Same dropped and that deal ended with the release of What a Time to Be Alive (he resigned again in summer 2015).
He resigned in summer 2015 for a 4-album deal that started with Views and was meant to end with a fourth album in 2019 but instead, he turned Scorpion into a double album and convinced the label to consider it as 2 albums, which they did.
His current deal was done as early as 2020 but because of how huge/unprecedented it is, it only got finalized in 2022 and that's when Lucian Grange was able to talk about it in his scheduled label meeting and that's when publications were able to report on it.
what were the advances, masters and royalty percentages
i heard he always on his publishing since the get go is this true

Now those are the details I'm not clear about. Sorry lol.
He owned 75% of his publishing throughout his time with Young Money/Cash Money but I'm not sure about now.

what do you mean 2 albums for 40 million

That was the money he got for Scorpion. Was supposed to be $40M for two separate albums but he turned Scorpion into a double album and convinced the label to regard that as two albums, which they agreed to. That's what he raps about on Mob Ties.
Musicians never retire. I don’t care who it is. Drake, The Beatles, Jay Z, Madonna, doesn’t matter. They never truly retire. Any time a musician says they are considering retirement, it’s either a marketing tactic or they’re gonna change their mind in the very near future.
Even Andre 3000 is still recording verses for people
Bill Withers really bounced and never returned
