on a rap note: the 90s right before '96 are an interesting time (and what most people probably refer to when they're talking about the "golden era" years) because that was when most of the landscape of rap was basically a bunch of nerd ass niggas, pothead ass niggas, conscious ass niggas, and hard ass niggas (aka the Onyx variety. And I say that because if you listen to some of the hardest rappers from that decade like the LOX demo tapes, they really was leaning into Onyx influence.)
