Didn't see a thread commemorating it and thought it would be nice to open up discussion again.

Sound 42 famously debuted with the release of Scary Hours 2 on March 5, 2021. It seemingly disappeared without an announcement sometime in March of last year. The last post from the X account was one promoting a weekly show scheduled for March 2, 2025:

Users on Reddit seemingly pointed out the channel's change on March 8th, 2025:

While the satellite radio station started in 2021, the partnership between Drake and Liberty Media (the former parent company of Sirius XM) spanned back to July, 2019, when Drake inked what was described as the "largest agreement." It was a cross-platform agreement that started with Pandora, a service that Sirius had acquired just months before the deal. One can only assume that it was a contractual agreement that either one or both parties decided against continuing that ended on the 5th of March, 2025. I believe this could have been due to Liberty Media splitting off Sirius XM as its own publicly traded company. A process that was formally completed in September of 2024, 6 months before Sound 42 ended abruptly. Sirius XM likely took on a lot of debt that was previously managed under the umbrella of its former parent company. (libertymedia.com/news/detail/544/liberty-media-and-sirius-xm-announce-completion-of). Here's an article discussing Sirius' financial troubles from January of this year: finance.yahoo.com/news/why-sirius-xm-holdings-fell-141200913.html

Besides that, it was one of the more memorable moments of rap this decade due to the number of people who tuned in, highlighted by the success of SH2 due to the anticipation of CLB. I still have the playlist that's in sequential order for the most part of when songs were played:

    open.spotify.com/playlist/1J56GJsWlHY66dFf2dREml?si=005e8b1448524d38

Playlist has 1400 unique songs and was updated actively for awhile since there was a service that would store the last 50 songs a station would play. Last songs I had added was from SOS (it was played through), and today I added FatD and $$$4U since they released before the station ended.
Looking back at it, it's still crazy to see the songs he played before debuting his own new music. Sound 42's first show started with "Loading" by Central Cee, "Shlime Talk" by Duvy, and "Essence" by Wizkid and Tems. The screenshot below shows the rest of the songs played before the SH2 premiere, including an unreleased track by Fenix Flexin that was later released in May 2021:

It was very cool to see OVO show love to Drakeo before he passed. It was a huge look, imo. Rip

Definitely. Good work although it was a terrible mistake going to XM radio. Ironically they could’ve pivoted to more streaming type content imo but probably just a tad bit too early for that. Still gave us some great moments with TF1 and the weekly Night Owl Sound shows

  • Mane, I miss the Friyiy Fridays on Night Owl Sound so much. Mark and Noel had that on lock. I still go back to some EPs on Soundcloud
