no it's because they aren't basic enough. everyone complains about how drake won't switch it up and then when he does, it's a problem.
2 Mazza I felt like he actually caught a cool pocket and I like it. I think Smiley just brings it down because people don’t really like him. This is really just like “hop in the booth and record in one take” type of vibe. It’s not the worst thing ever but people aren’t going to gas it when they have a ton of songs together that are better

i really like smiley so I'm biased there. And no, this isn't my favorite collab between 21 and Drake, but I still really like it, and appreciate how they didn't release a Her Loss B-Side or something totally meh like Mr. Right Now
as you've said they've worked together many times and this one still does something different. I haven't listened to the Rick Ross/Meek tape yet, and while I'll probably really enjoy it when I do, I already know what it sounds like.
edit: and that's the case for a lot of duos.
