Hope Bruce Pearl ousts him for preaching in Davion Mitchell's DMs in the middle of the season
Them types seem sinister imo
Wow, it's really gonna be Mark Pope
He's been linked as a candidate now
May be done watching Kentucky hoops
lol it’s definitely not him. Someone asked if he was gonna change his Twitter handle yesterday and he acted like he didn’t know what Twitter was.
Kentucky basketball hiring Pope after Calipari is no different than Alabama football hiring DeBoer after Saban
They're each the guy before the real guy shows up
Kentucky fans on twitter pulling themselves up out of their doldrums by reminding Auburn fans that Pearl wasn't offered the job
Glad that makes them feel a bit better
I'd still probably take dude before Beard (BYU seemed pretty decent) with factoring in ethics and morals, but it seems as if they didn't even kick the hire on Pearl, Pitino or anyone else at all lmao
I mean KSU's coach, Seton Hall, Marquette just had a run, Todd Golden is young and has some proof of concept in the SEC
It just went straight from god tier coach hire to we won't wait for billy donovan to we won't take baggage coaches to ex-kentucky player with a few good seasons

Being totally objective here, winning at BYU in the NIL and portal era is pretty difficult and he transitioned them rather seamlessly to the Big 12 which we all know is a really tough conference

it's 3 am man what is wrong with u
Of course "winning" is to be taken with a grain of salt here because he only has regular season wins to his name and the loss to a bad Duquesne team was ugly to say the very least

You're in here too bubba

Pitino at least gives u like 1 natty contending season over the next 3-4 years before he withers away
I think it's tough to have given Cal like 2-3 seasons more than he deserved of ineptitude and THEN bring in a baby face hire to learn on the job. He probably has the coaching chops, but he'll likely need at least a yr or two of acclimation. That may result in yet another SEC team making a girthy MM type run, which would probably lead to even more exasperation

Yeah I do think the timing of it is a little disappointing for Kentucky fans because of the current landscape of the sport, but with 3 consecutive really disappointing showings in March you kind of have to stop the bleeding and just cut ties especially since the fans and media (and boosters reportedly) had basically totally turned on him
Oats taking his name out of the running instantly, Hurley going B2B, Donovan not wanting to return to the college game and Drew's wife being a recluse is just a really unfortunate series of events for them tbh
I don't think Kentucky fans are any happier with Tang, Lloyd, Golden, or any other coach in that tier. I saw a lot of them saying they wouldn't have even been happy with Drew
Once they missed out on the Oats/Hurley/Donovan tier there was no candidate that was going to make them happy
2019: Kentucky loses in the elite 8, UCLA offers Calipari the job and he wants to take it but Kentucky makes him an offer he can't refuse so he stays
2020: Tournament cancelled
2021: 9-16, misses tournament
2022: Loss in the first round to #15 Saint Peter's
2023: Round of 32 exit
2024: Loss in the first round to #14 Oakland
Dude was totally checked out after signing that 10 year deal lmao
