    Okay Yeah

Yeah I have to do it but I might not show up to teach those dumb f*** recruiters about scheduling interviews this early for me

What’s the worst that can happen if I don’t show up

It’s not a good look for your professionalism

The industry is small and you don’t want the chance that it catches up with you.

Most likely nothing as we both know but it’s just about your personal brand

And that’s very fair. Now I’m not gonna be one to say that dumb s*** like ā€œquit being so emotionalā€ or something because I actually just had a similar conversation with my old man a few hours ago before his flight. Even when I lived on my own before I was still relatively close so they could see me and he was sad to see me go. He was telling me that that’s just his nature and part of how he expresses himself and I respect that from him being so forthcoming about it (makes me start to question why I am how I am but that’s another conversation).

Maybe instead of the same old tired ā€œjust learn to control your emotionsā€ (and I admittedly was one of the idiots who use to say this) how about just avoiding certain situations where emotions might flare and some things that may or may not be meant get said?

A really mature way is to avoid those situations and the clinical term is trigger but that word has meme connotations now.

I suppose that’s the most practical as no one has the time and energy to actually see a therapist to try and work through those situations.

I would say the first step and probably hardest is self awareness.

Precisely, and I’m glad you brought up ā€œtriggerā€ and for the exact reason that you did, it IS the clinical term but the word has been meme’d and battered out of context to death that I just didn’t feel comfortable using it just then.

Time, energy, even the level of comfort to see a specialist can be daunting so I don’t fault anyone who doesn’t go for help either unless if it’s trending on behavior either destructive to themselves or those around them.

Spot on, having a firm understanding of oneself is always necessary to understand what may ā€œtriggerā€ things, reading situations, etc.

That second paragraph is so accurate

It’s comfortable living in denial that you have an issue. It protects the ego and you’re still complete to yourself. That first step to realise you have an issue then to seek therapy is incredible.

I’m not sure if you guys remember but earlier this year I was put on antidepressants, not cause I was suicidal (or anything wild) but I noticed I was lacking energy and interest in life.

Now that treatment didn’t work for me personally but at least seeking help made me feel better about myself which ironically helped the situation.

    Crazy thing mental health.

Yeah that may just be your human nature and that’s fine, we all gotta respect each other as individuals. That’s the second step after acknowledging our own quirks and individuality. Seems like you have options in mind for funneling your emotions elsewhere since you were able to bring it up and that’s great! Knowing what works best for you since no one else knows you better than yourself. Re-directing energy, counseling, YOU know what will help best

Yes I remember you mentioning this, specifically the lack of energy and I’m glad you’re doing better now. Mental health is a fickle thing, we have to understand our ticks and balances and even then it’s tricky lol. I just want it to be established that it’s a topic that can be had in here at any and all times because the world beats us down, then a person beats themselves down further and they might need something to bring them back up again. If that needs to be here then it’s gonna be here
