Do you mix just to create a certain sound in your head or do you just clean up volume/transition issues?

The second is what I’m tryna be better at. If you got any tips for that just lmk

I just clean s*** up but i also have a certain way i want my mix to sound so going into it i know i will be making X cuts at X h,z leveling X to a certain level to be louder than X etc, i have it memorized on the exact db i want my claps and snares to hit at in comparison to the hats etc

biggest part of mixing is experience bc honestly once u know ur sound u want u can just mix down 75% of songs relatively the same way, just gotta keep experimenting and tweaking to find what sounds good to you

even then the mix honestly hardly matters nowadays if Im being honest, as long as ur high ends arent ear rapey and ur low ends arent blowing speakers out ur good for the most part (leveling > mixing). this is super contrived but this a deep topic for me lmao
