2 games away in football might as well be a whole season away, it really doesn't mean anything especially with how often the NFL playoff picture changes

Mets have a mega rich owner who is clearly willing to spend and make moves + they're in a division with the middling Phillies and Braves and rebuilding Nats and Marlins
