Could you link the studies
I think you’re right that ranking aoty doesn’t exist outside of niche discussions and general baiting for engagement on social media.
At my age I enjoy the music I like and I don’t have the need to try and convince people to like it or try to justify it anymore.
Re the Kpop point I’ve come around on the genre but the connotations are still wild here especially with the fetishisation people have. I wouldn’t go as far as calling it parody music but it’s still a niche/gimmick
yeh there's no escaping it tbh
its pretty easy to tell because people will not f*** w a song because a certain gender is singing it.
plus like this one dude that was at a lot of kpop concerts (always girl groups) started dating this busted ass asian girl. and it was actually my gf at the time that pointed out how f***ed it must feel to know your bf only likes you because you can function as a proxy for something he will never have.
as for the study, i really need to find it again. basically the end take away points was that music serves to help create/mold self sense of identity, and that music will be the most meaningful to you around 16-18, and after around 21 it really drops off. it's kinda the same reason majority of people are stuck listening to what they listened to in high school. but they actually worked with studying brain imaging over time and s***-- seeing how literally your brain reacts to music at different ages
