The problem is we have people claiming we have no resources including the elite. They're all liars and could easily generate projects endlessly for human population to expand and explore into. I'd say anyone cultured and academically inclined would agree. Areas of insuffiency are agriculture and space-faring tech. The entire economy can be manipulated however necessary by the powers that be. It's value is set and manipulated by their very words. So it would suffice to say the reason for depopulation and mitigation of normalcy is purely the result of apprehension over projected population density and rate of expansion. I would presume that forecasts indicate a loss of control being probable if technology and citizenry expand faster than they can enact failsafe protocols or suppression type mechanisms.
