Bernie talked about expanding medicare, protecting social security, getting money out of politics, climate change, and on and on and on. These issues apply to voters of EVERY demo.
He was THE issues candidate. Only thing is, the over 45 crowd doesn't care about issues except "beating Trump", so they just want to be told which oppressor to vote for. Bernie was a 3 state winning frontunner until the DNC hail mary actually worked.
He did everything he could but attack Biden. Maybe that wouldve woken the default voters up if he just said "Joe is Hillary 2.0. I am FDR."
The only other knock I'll give him is he shouldve called himself an FDR dem since 2016, not dem socialist. Just change the semantics and these dumb old f***s will then understand
This is the issue I think a lot of Bernie people (inc. his advisors) misunderstand (imo). People don't care about issues in a vacuum. Should they? Of course. Do they? I mean - look who is president right now.
People en-masse care largely about the contextual messaging behind why issues are being discussed or put in place - this isn't necessarily a good thing, but it is what it is.
Bernie's rhetoric surrounding how he approached discussing issues wasn't working. It just wasn't. You can say it was, but the voterbase clearly disagreed. There's a disconnect - his same speech over and over about the millionaires and billionaires and about the corrupt healthcare industry was not popular outside of those who already agreed, even if you'd think it would be. Why? Because of the context of it versus his platform. A lot of people don't like the rhetoric he uses in the context of the "dirty words" associated with his campaign.
They also don't like who he associates with. Did you know AOC had to literally call Sanders to beg him to reach out for endorsements? He doesn't understand how coalitions work. The American people largely do not want a black sheep calling for revolution; they want someone who their hierarchy of trusted politicians rally behind. Trump would not be Trump if the GOP was not fully united behind him right now; it's not just a party loyalty thing as some would have you believe, it's also an aspect of faith in establishments - not in the CURRENT establishments, but in the IDEA of establishments. Many anti-establishment Americans do not want to tear down the establishment - they want to replace it. It's why Trump's messaging works for his demographic so well.
This is, again, in a vacuum disregarding his policies for a second. There are other caveats for sure, I know it's not as clean cut as I'm making it out to be.
not even really touching on any specific points in your post but at the end of the day he still ran a good political campaign with an impressive ground game. it was always going to just have to be much more in regards to what he was up against and the mountain he had to climb, so i think it’s easy to say bc he got beat by the likes of a joe biden or what have you, that his campaign was somehow worse than his. i disagree and think it’s disingenuous to all the other optics (even tho u said consider it in a vacuum, ofc)
The reason why I don't think he ran a good political campaign is because it failed to expand the reach of his campaign beyond what it already had. The point of a campaign isn't just to make headlines or to maintain current voters - it's to makers voters cross into your camp. By all means, he basically failed at this if you look his stats. Sure, there was a crowded field at first, but once that crowd faded he still largely failed in getting most of such to come over to his side.
Yep.
Bernie bros out here wanting a fascist in office cause their fav lost

They have been parroting Trump/right wing talking points since 2015

i’d say that’s still being too critical, he made big strides in the latino communities (which would’ve been a boon come the general) he just didn’t push hard enough in other regards. i also think his team and us in general assumed that despite some of his pull in 2016 just being anti hillary/trump voters, they’d stick around, but obviously that wasn’t the case in certain places in the midwest, as we saw. so 2016 was just sort of an anomaly of an election cycle and we saw some of that spill over into the field this time.
will be truly interesting to see how campaigns are run and what they do once the image of trump stops fueling them/the voters.
so is not voting for trump thereby a vote for biden, then ? 🙄
Dont care.
America gets what they deserve
ppl really think they cracked the code by repeating this dumb s***

none of these suburban white boys online saying this would ever think to get offline, drive down to my old area or one like it, and tell all the people there that ain’t voting that they are actually “trump voters”
it’s one of the most stupid, weakest forms of arguments around and the desperation is telling.
can’t wait till trump is finally away from the white house so all the democrat favorite talking points become completely null and void
2016...now 2020..the same talking points by liberals because the nominee is complete trash.

Dude would get his s*** rocked if he said that anywhere but the internet
sad this will work on some ppl, but just like a lot of fair weather “progressives” that flocked to warren and then meekly fell in line wit Joe after she dropped out, these people were never truly “down” to begin with.
but the fact of the matter is bernie was able to win over some would-be trump voters so let’s see if biden can do the same
Dude would get his s*** rocked if he said that anywhere but the internet
Wtf are you even talking about

These are the same ppl lecturing us on unity and set aside our very real needs but we are somehow uniquely bad on this when less of us voted for Trump in 16 than they did McCain in 08, they can’t even be consistent in their own message
