They can be as uninformed and backwards as they want, the problem is they’ll still make up a majority of the electorate. What’s more important than trump moving left is the state of the country. If there’s a recession or coronavirus is still a thing in November, trump doesn’t have a chance. If they’re both resolved then trump won’t need to move left in the first place

All things considered, I think tonight’s the end of the line for Bernie’s campaign. If the last debate + coronavirus couldn’t swing things for Super Tuesday III, I just don’t see what can. As someone who was a proud (Hillary supporting/centrist?) Democrat in 2016 I have to say that this primary has politically awakened me in a way that no other election has, and that’s thanks to the Bernie Sanders campaign.

It’s important not to herald any one politician as a leftist savior but I feel like this is just the beginning of the progressive movement. Bernie is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime politician but I think we have to boost specific policies going forward while we wait for more progressive politicians to crop up.

welp. that was an embarrassing end to this election

i'm not gonna give up hope yet... completely. but f*** man. when i see bernie and hear him speak, i see authenticity. i see someone who has made great decisions in his life and has the data and legacy to prove it. i see someone who has filled me with so much hope. i have never been this politically involved in my life. i see the first politician who has spoken on television as if they were face to face with me and my family. i don't feel like he'd go behind our backs and help himself and his rich friends all at our expense like the other guys. i'm lowkey devastated. this guy was gonna help my family have the means to make a better life for ourselves without doing dirty work or going into debt. and his age is rising and rising. i don't want this man's message to leave this earth. now who is going to fight for me?

Trump has shown it only takes one person to shift party platform to a separate uniformity. A lot of what the GOP is saying now would be unthinkable 20-30 years ago except maybe in thinktanks. Even Nixon was very quickly dissuaded from his income program. A lot of younger conservatives - not libertarians - are also shifting to a more traditionally left view of economics, especially hatred of big monolithic businesses and banks and desire for redistribution. While I don't think this will be a short process, I think this is something republicans will eventually come to terms with as their electoral power is increasingly threatened in the future.
