the rise in popularity of socialism in the US following 2016 was due to the prolonged effects of the global recession and its explosion into violence in the form of the BLM movement. if the revolutionary socialist left wants to maintain its momentum they need to continue real deep organizing and party building around key issues like police violence, immigration, open borders, and the anti-imperialist movement; because there's no hope left in the democratic party.

the difference is that at least the Labour Party had genuine roots in the working class that the DNC lacked. if you want more examples of this phenomenon, look at how social democracy has failed in India and has now become fascism, or how the overthrow of socialism in Eastern Europe has turned into fascism.

4 more years of Trump isn't going to reinvigorate the movement but its possible that other world events could make socialism relevant again, probably the next capitalist crisis which will likely turn into another large scale armed conflict.
