bro you are naĂŻve if you don't think that this was a calculated marketing decision for them and the symbolic nature is very obvious from a cultural standpoint since the national anthem has been a staple in sports since world war 1 and continued in world war 2 onwards
I will say that the left is creating and leading the discourse that the anthem is symbolic for the United States and all its horrid actions in history, when the other side would argue that the anthem in itself isn't political at all. Patriotism doesn't have to be political. In there eyes it doesn't need to be. It's a sign of respect for REAL people who are stationed overseas right now. No matter what your beliefs are, they are in some capacity protecting your precious freedumbz
This is where the typical political religious zealotry comes out and neither side will agree to listen to the other side. Fingers in the ears like children
And if you can't see the relationship with team sports and war and soldiers then idk what to tell you because those metaphors are constantly brought up in every form of pop culture
