i just fw tofu heavy lol

yeah the versality of tofu vs tempeh is sort of beyond compare, no pun intended lol

i just like tempeh cause it's less processed so it has the fiber plus its fermented and i'm trying to fix my gut microbiome

def hear you about the diminishing returns bit above, not that i'm vegan, but some of the vegans i knew in uni were split on whether a leather/suede jacket or shoe they'd had before switching their lifestyle was worth tossing. and i don't mean just donating, some would be like "yeah no its gotta go to the dump. if i let someone else wear it, im no better than them" which always struck me as more than weird lol

What's your process and routine like for your gut health journey?

tbh im kinda just trying to fix my "shit" ever since i took a course of antibiotics for some minor infection in 2021 and simultaneously started drinking hard liquor more, but with diet soda instead of regular! (perfect conditions for my gut health to get really bad lol)

Since the science is in its infancy I'm mainly just following some guidelines that are online, most of which reference this one study:

    health.ucsd.edu/news/releases/Pages/2018-05-15-big-data-from-worlds-largest-citizen-science-microbiome-project-serves-food-for-thought.aspx

if you do glance at it, the emerging trends is probably the most valuable bit, understandably lol, where it says to eat at least 30 unique plants/week, including fruits nuts seeds herbs etc

    routine wise:

    -minimizing processed foods
    -maximizing fiber

    • daily saurkraut w/ my probiotic (apparently a probiotic isn't enough, we need scaffolding for it to colonize, and the benefits you get from taking the probiotic go away as soon as you stop so i'm trying to find a way to get more fermented foods in my diet overall)
    • reducing meat consumption
    • high fiber diet
    • drinking less liquor (struggling with this still)

reading fiber fueled, a book about plant-based gut health, really inspired me to try to stop eating meat though. some funny stuff in there too.

first poop transplant occurred in acient china more than 1500 years ago like wtf???

sorry for the long post and if tmi/thanks for taking the time to read it if you did

that book is getting alot of praise online lately, but i just used libgen to get a free copy. idk if i believe some of the claims, but idk, i have little to lose, except apparently fiber is correlated with longevity? and for the amount/frequency that i've said in the past "i want to die" its kinda ironic that i've been striving for such a high fiber target lol

what really annoys me is ppl who say "well sure veganism is good but I'd rather spend my time and energy doing xyz" like MFER YOU CAN DO MORE THAN ONE THING

never gonna forget some idiot who told me to my face shed rather help the homeless than go vegan because she views that as a greater net benefit. when i told her i do both she didn't know what to say lmaooo

this s*** ain't all or nothing, everyone should just be doing what they can to reduce suffering. it's rly just that simple to me. examining your life, it's impacts, and always striving to move in the right direction
