Sure y’all seen this by now, but AOC was asked about her prior support for defund the police and Hong’s old Thanksgiving tweet.
AOC dismissed all that by saying “Woke 1 was crazy.” She also said “rhetoric we used back then to talk about crime is not rhetoric we’d use today” and that it was all fueled by desperation during the pandemic.
I personally think she’s bugging. The convos around police brutality, the me too movement and the 1619 project were on the money. Feels like you’re giving the right a free win by saying “oh I was just hysterical back then!”
What ya’ll think?
Off topic but haven’t seen you on this site for a min bro! Hope you’ve been well
Yooo my guy elemental missed you fam! Yeah just been dealing with some life stuff but I’m well. Hope you good too bro
It’s crazy that just being a regular person who just wants others to have an equal existence and opportunity has to be diminished to this dumb buzzword. Were people being performative on socials yeah but I think conflating it all under a singular umbrella is dangerous to some of the progress that was made
i mean some s*** (primarily) white libs were doing was definitely questionable, ex.

Funny enough this same photo was used as an example in the og “woke 1” tweet
Pelosi and em were getting called out at the time for being performative tho
It's still defund the police man. They earn a billion dollars in Houston, but they don't do s***

We are living in the post-woke era, stay brave and be ready for some realness.
yeah shes a fraud, we been knew
AOC was supposed to be the one
i thought woke 1 2 etc was memes i didnt know ppl were actually using that term
woke 0.2: a fragmentary passage
There was definitely a correlation from the “woke” era + me too movement + Black Lives Matter where certain groups (young white women) became more aware of the much larger struggle (ACAB) and may have behaved performatively online
but to call that crazy is striking down the larger effort it created in developing a conversation around a institution that has served to marginalize black men since its inception (incarceration rate for black men in US is equivalent to 2B people from the largest 7 countries in the world)
what is she on? lmfao
woke the first
woke jr
wtf does woke 1 even mean
pre-covid/first term trump era basically
woke 3.0+1.0
Y’all’s first mistake was thinking these people were on your side and will ever be
I think it did have a lot of excess primarily coming from young people who didn't really know what they were talking about, 'It's not my job to educate you' was a very unhelpful stance for a lot of people to take, essentially 'We'll browbeat you for being incorrect but won't tell you why you're wrong or how to improve'
At the same time though I'll gladly take the overreach of Woke 1.0 over having actual fascists in government, although I do genuinely think the grievance politics of being annoyed at people dictating what you could say did steer a lot of morons to the far-right, and they'll gladly tell you as much
It's important to consider as well that a lot of Woke 1.0's excesses were isolated incidents and individual posts from dumbass teenagers that were then cargo-culted into representing an entire movement, but that propaganda was undoubtedly effective, one woman with short dyed red hair and glasses yells at someone and bam, that's every woman demanding an end to sexism
I feel like it was a corrective to a world where casual racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic jokes were more normalised, but now we're kinda back there and one of the biggest social media websites on the planet is owned by an open white supremacist, the President can say entire countries have worthless criminal populations, and calling a black child the N word gets you hundreds of thousands on GoFundMe
A lot of people just don't like it when you tell them what they can and can't say, but fundamentally, there's stuff you shouldn't say if you want society to be more harmonious and accepting, hurling slurs at people should be considered shameful in an ideal world, but a lot of people see any gesture towards this as censorious and repressive, much preferring to race to the bottom, espousing hate and ugliness in the name of freedom of speech
This is a long-ass post, but I think the craziness of Woke 1.0 did exist, but was overstated, and what we have now is far, far worse
It’s crazy that just being a regular person who just wants others to have an equal existence and opportunity has to be diminished to this dumb buzzword. We seriously joke too much as a society
Woke 1 had it's issues but I would take that over the bullshit happening right now
Wok3
That said, in the context of the clip in op, I don't know if she's being entirely dismissive of woke 1 as much as she's using the phrase to lightly defend Francesca Hong and her past tweets.
