I’m leaning most towards peace corps so I can learn another language
'stay at job' - ig we'll never kno wat that even is..
'peace corps' - work for the feds.. under this admin.. so neocolonialism can save face.. 👎
'holiday work visa' - w.o further details.. kind of best of both worlds re: ur language ambitions innit
either way u go ur lucky to even have these options in 2026

Old US gov program, used to be very very prominent with gen X,
go work overseas helping disadvantaged communities in sustainable ways that can keep going once you leave.
Similar boat,
keep applying to tech jobs, working on personal projects, trying to beat the ATS, posting on linkedin

well there u go
feel like u wudnt ask the question if a big part of u wasnt looking to get away, so its really about eliminating between the last 2. wat u choose ultimately comes down to a matter of preference, finances and what being 'conscientious' looks like to u
You're gonna regret Peace Corps unless there's a specific thing you want out of it
every time i ever went on a mission trip i always felt more grateful for the life i have, and a better sense of wanting to help the community around me.
But to go with your point, sleeping/eating conditions and the minimal free time made it a very difficult experience.

I'm mostly saying that wanting to learn a language is not gonna get OP through 2 years of living in a village with no running water and limited electricity
You need an actual reason to want to even apply to PC
Holiday Work Visa
That’s the thing too, I’m not sure what country/countries to go to. I can go to france/germany/chile/nz/aus and they all provide career advancement. I think France and Aus are the top contenders, but I don’t speak french and Aus seems too similar to the US

Yeah I feel like my current job is too safe and suburban dad-ish. I don’t want to look back 10 years from now and regret not grabbing life by the balls
should I stay at my current job or do neocolonialism on behalf of the most reactionary state in the world

sounds like all thats left is to narrow down where u goin ✈️

I’m hoping to learn a new language like french or arabic. Or even get placed in mexico and reconnect with the motherland

It’s site dependent but yeah it would be hard to enjoy living like that. But 2 years isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things

I didn’t think of it that way but even so peace corps is too short if a stint to create effective change

Yeah but pay is ass in those countries except for Aus/nz
It would be for personal growth and to see the world mainly

which is y i led w australia
never been but the indigenous~aboriginal communties, sheer variety of wildlife and natural wonders wud be enough for me to jump @ the opportunity. u seem to be torn between wanting to travel into a new experience but avoiding being alienated by not knowing the language. similar to the us in function perhaps but Aus at least aligns with most of ur stated criteria; +it's a continent unto itself waiting to be explored. working wine out there could be an exciting journey/challenge
