Yeah the game was a big mess, especially depending on what system you played on. But the game was fun as hell, and for it being a ps2/xbox game they did some amazing things here. This game had a TON of interiors from what I remember, something GTA has always lacked. Destruction effects The detail on nyc was great. The snow effects, the cutscenes and voice work. GTA IV (top 5 favorite games of all time) couldn't even bother with snow. And a large portion of nyc was 1 for 1 re-created if I remember right. One of the reasons why I live the true crime/sleeping dogs series. Opposite saints row 1 and 2 it was the only thing that came close to competing in the world of GTA.

I didn't say it was better than gta. It did certain things better. Way more interiors, destruction effects, snow etc. But yeah I wouldn't ever say it was flat out better than gta lol. It gave a really nice effort though and tried to be different by making you a cop

TCNY dropped 4 years after gta 3 which is what is was most similar to
Yes it was dope but so was Scarface the World is yours

Just got into roms for my phone and dld this. Too bad game was a buggy mess man it really was a cool lil game to scratch that GTA itch that did a lot of things well. I can't even pass the damn tutorial on here cuz I can't crouch since the L3 button isn't registering when you press it

You know how you go back and games aren't as good as you remember?

Besides it being a b**** to run on PC, its actually better than you would remember/the mechanics are kind of layered in a way that makes it different than GTA.

The bugginess killed it on arrival sadly. Extremely ambitious title tho

Can enter most buildings, some of the random crimes even occur in them

Tons of fighting styles, fun hand to hand fighting

Massive soundtrack

Good shooting

The story was pretty blah and generic tho after the strong start showing his past that they never bring up again and his dad just never shows up again

Hated how quickly the cars got damaged and how you d fly out the window every crash
And the freezing and game crashes were what killed it.

I will take a next gen true crime game over GTA 6 any day of the week. I’m so serious.

Don't know about that but GTA definitely could stand to take some ideas from the TC/Sleeping Dogs series.

Still a trip how may interiors TCNYC has. And the snowy aspect. Hell Scarface game has some dope ass features too .

Yeah it’s a fun game

I mean I miss the Getaway, Sleeping Dogs and True crime. I mis saints row. I miss there being other open world sandbox games because the other ones often actually again did things innovative when it came to gameplay where as GTA just stagnated and got lazy because it knew its fanbase is going to destroy the competition themselves by acting like they shouldnt exist and trashing their games even when saints row focused on a different lane

People became monotheistic about Grand theft auto at a point and rather than appreciate anyone else really making strides they became the cult of rockstar when San Andreas dropped it was never really like that

people loved Godfather games, mafia mercenaries just cause and so many other games

then suddenly a lot of the companies started to close partially the cost of open world games and no multiplayer for microtransactions

Now its like we dont have as many choices when it comes to games with larger worlds or if we do its creed like, hogwarts legacy , watchdogs,far cry, ghsot of yotei, god of war

Crazy how devs just gave up on trying to compete with GTA

I mean a lot of the companies closed. Then budgets go up. Then designer wise its tough because companies want someone who worked on a world of that size previously in some form. Its tough now in this day in age create a new ip open world with the level of detail people want
