I’d be lying if I said this didn’t feel like a massive letdown on first listen…

Idk, I get what he was aiming for with the band concept and whatnot, but this sound doesn’t do him any favors and imo highlights some of the weaknesses in his songwriting. I’m nearly through and I kind of just want to listen to Good Faith now lol

“dancing on your grave” and “lonely space age” are incredible songs and definitely putting those along with “hi” and “car crash baby” as the best songs of this era

The rest are more hit or miss. “Super Platinum” and “Somebody Else” I enjoyed on first listen but have to go back to. The Slayyyter song is fine but not crazy about it. “Enjoy” kinda came and went to me.

The two worst songs on this are the Sam Gellaitry song and “Chaos Magic”: the ones where he really tries to push that pop indie/synth rock sound the most. Just sounds really formulaic

Overall, yeah this is no Good Faith or Adventure but still decent
