when I showed my non-black friends any artist or I found out they found an artist, I usually tried to make sure they listened to the actual catalog cause I don’t want to talk to you about popular songs. i wanna run into you and hear “yo bro, have you heard (track 12, verse 3), this nigga went crazy hold up lemme play this s***”

Kai started off with rappers being the first celebrities to come on his streams, but he's had Kevin Hart, Druski, icarly, Kyrie, Igudola, non hip hop artists, other actors, athletes, etc

His medium has never been on getting to know an artists process or deeper talks on rap. It's personality, it's parasocial, allowing people to feel like they're getting to see a different side or better know a celebrity who's typically there to promo something then hangout.

I'd say plaqueboymax is much closer to that than Kai has ever been and all max does is rap himself or use protools. Which is basically the kenny beats s*** without actually having any producing skills or having any deep engineering abilities aside from knowing how to record and s***.

it’s sad when you find out his music stylist is a nerd white boy but that’s fair. idk, i saw my girl listening to mk.gee a while ago and i was like oh you’re tapped in? and she just said yea wtf don’t ever ask me that again and she’s not a music nerd so different strokes i guess.

i would just expect someone with that big of a platform and audience that is in an off way also built on a musical element (unlike Speed) to take the time to appreciate the legends of the past since you’ve attached your platform to this thing, cause history matters but they don’t nor have to, and that’s the main conversation here is what’s up with the lack of care? and why is it so welcomed today like it’s normal?

While Kai has popping artists on his show, it’s just as personas and entertainers here and there, he has everyone he can find on his show. I would compare him more to like an Ellen or Oprah, his s*** is mainly black culture. He just entertains ppl and rappers be funny and it’s cool to see a rapper there, he’s not rly influential in terms of music I don’t think anyone looks at Kai like that. No one expects Ellen to know the history of her guests. Kai like a year or two ago only started branching out from just being like “oh this sounds nice” and listening to the a boogie his friend were playing and he’s a busy adult.
Ur gf is a normal person ya but also there’s mad people esp guys from the hood that just aren’t tapped into s*** they might not even know the rapper doesn’t make the beat or anything about the process. Kai was one of those guys till recently he’s like such a regular guy yknow. I feel like it’s like expecting Oprah to know the history of pop music or television cuz she gets mad actors and s***. He’s an entertainer, who has always come off as just a charismatic regular Bronx guy that’s only on the internet cuz he likes streaming. Bro didn’t even hear any carti before last year

I doubt it's just hip-hop this happens with. I'm sure a lot of kids born in the 2000s don't know much about many other bands and acts who became popular in the mid-late 2000s.

Kai Cenat was probably only 5-7 when Zaytoven first started rising in popularity. Maybe only 12 when he was more of a household name. Still young and probably not too familiar with his past work.

Oprah and Ellen weren’t sitting with their guest for 3+ hours they had 15 minute segments max then an audience participation type s***. Kai is running through their music and getting to know the artist without properly asking them anything about the music or the history of anything

at that rate, artists might as well just go back to late night TV cause what’s the point of the new medium if all we doing is the same s*** we’d be doing on TV for less work?

yea it’s long form content. That’s what I’m saying, it’s not a music show. He also brings on other streamers and s***. He’s not like plaqueboymax, he just brings popular people on and rappers to have fun with them and do entertaining stuff. The chat engages with them all the time prolly more than the audience at an Ellen show. It started with him doing college pranks and playing video games and irl streams, he still does the latter two all the time. Bringing rappers is one part of his stream. And reacting to new music, cuz the audience likes it.
Ppl in Kai’s community always joke about how he’s not known for being v knowledgeable on damn near anything lol. He never talks to his guests about music, really
This is jsut a newer form of something like late night tv my guy, and this tv show is an entertainment show, not a music show. Plaqueboymax is a music show.
It’s essentially late night tv and icarly except u don’t have to deal with the fact ur on TV and just have fun in a room with a entertaining guy for a few hours and its not run by unfunny white execs. Tbh as an artist I would love to be on a Kai stream it looks mad fun.

Like he brings whoever seems would be fun to bring on or he likes or ppl like and just tries to hang out with them the whole time
