because they often use this as an excuse to try to go pop or play on something in vogue unsucessfully under the semantic aegis of "well i haven't done it before, so it's new to me". you don't get any points trying to be catchy because it's the predominate form of music enjoying the most success. pushing your sound is more than reaching for that.
