It's not. Per Luminate, dance/electronic, country, rock, and Latin are all rising.

Mainstream rap has floundered creatively and the labels are no longer prioritizing it

think it's a literacy thing? and does that affect young rap acts not connecting with people?

here I am thinking it's been a great year for rap

That's definitely a factor, also I think rap is just not as "cool" anymore to younger white kids like it was 10-15 years ago. Plus the political state of the nation is contributing to the rise of country music in the mainstream

Maybe creatively, but commercially this year has been pretty barren for mainstream rap music outside of Octane and ICEMAN

  • I said this a month ago yet they said I was posting stupid s***. Lol

  • when we got DBD, Casino, Octane and The Fall Off almost weekly in the winter I thought hip hop wasn’t gonna let up this year but cut to mid summer and the last big project was ICEMAN in late spring

    record player*

  • New niggas suck or only got production strengths which can't carry an artist for long and the old niggas either peaked a while ago or stuck in limbo because their corny ass fans can't stop doing Stan wars. Niggas can't write good fun hooks anymore either. Niggas forgot how to party. And conscious niggas too afraid to really take it there.

Also nigga f*** Billboard anyway bruh who gives a s*** this is hip hop!

it’s all just framing. hiphop is losing listeners who don’t have a reason to stick around anymore and are going back to their usual genres but the same hiphop listeners who’ve been here are still there with more longtime listeners being added

hiphop isn’t declining, it’s just going back to the level it was at before streaming blew up and that’s still dominating. it’s just gonna go back to sharing that space of hit music with pop, edm, and country with neither having as large a dominance as hiphop which is still 1 in every 4 streams
